Inspirational short stories filmed around the world
The Global Aquaculture Alliance engaged Shave to produce a series of short films showcasing exemplary aquaculture operations around the world. Our Boston video production team logged serious air miles, traveling to Mexico, Maine, Ireland, Hawaii, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Each destination brought with it the challenge of transporting gear across borders, adapting to vastly different climates, and setting up nimble production workflows that could thrive in any environment. Along the way, cultural awareness and sensitivity were just as critical as camera settings—navigating local customs, building trust quickly, and respecting the rhythms of each community were all essential to telling these stories authentically.
Through this project we gained a firsthand understanding of the aquaculture industry, a field often misunderstood yet vital to global food security. We saw how producers balance the responsibility of delivering high-quality, sustainable products with the pressures of changing ecosystems, economic uncertainty, and public misperceptions. Many of the farms we visited operate at the intersection of science and tradition, facing complex challenges while also working tirelessly to provide both nourishment and livelihoods.
Most importantly, these shoots revealed the human dimension of aquaculture. Each film drew out the story within a community—of farmers preserving their natural environments, supporting their neighbors, and finding pride in contributing to a healthier planet. For our team, the project was as much about amplifying those voices as it was about capturing beautiful visuals. We left each location inspired not only by the resilience of the industry, but by the shared commitment to sustainability that connects communities oceans apart.
