From Script to Site
Instructional Videos for Cambridge DPW’s Stormwater Control Guide
Our client VHB, in partnership with Stormwater Compliance, engaged us to produce two instructional videos as part of a Stormwater Control Measure Inspection & Maintenance Guide for the Cambridge Department of Public Works. Over the course of two days, our three-person crew filmed at job sites in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, using three cinema cameras and a drone to capture the work from multiple perspectives. By documenting crews in action, we were able to show how the landscape transformed throughout the day as different stages of the process unfolded.
Pre-production played a crucial role in this project. Working closely with VHB, we carefully mapped out the script and identified the supporting visuals needed to bring it to life. To ensure precise planning, we created a storyboard edit synced with the recorded voiceover—provided by a member of VHB’s team and captured in our studio. This approach allowed us to align visuals with narration before stepping onto the job site, ensuring a seamless and efficient shoot.
The result was a pair of clear, concise instructional videos that balanced technical detail with visual clarity. By combining high-quality field footage with thoughtful pre-production, we created training tools that will support the Cambridge DPW’s stormwater management efforts for years to come. This project reflects the value of collaboration, planning, and on-the-ground documentation in delivering videos that both educate and engage.
